back in town!

well i haven't posted in a while, as i've been off at the cottage relaxing and eating and swimming and strolling and baking and doing various little handyman things. i wish i was there still! it's 34 degrees today and feeling like 35 with the humidex. not fun (although my friend who is visiting from thailand describes this as "winter weather").

the good part: i now have a big enough belly that i am spontaneously offered a seat on the subway!

the other good part: i have comfy shoes again! the replacements for the dog-eaten sandals arrived while we were away. no more glowing feet! (horses sweat, men perspire, and ladies glow, my mother used to say)

the bad part: mosquito bites.

yay for the bella band

my bella band came in the mail last night! yippee! actually, i got two - one black, one white. today i am wearing a top i haven't worn in ages, because it was onthe shortish side, and getting shorter every day that my belly grew. now, i don't have to worry about my belly peeking out. yippee! it's surprisingly comfy, too.

good morning!

this is what i get for falling asleep right after the game yesterday. actually, i almost fell asleep during the second half. zidane's idot move jolted me awake for a bit, but it didn't last. what a moron. what a stupid way to end his career.

i'm amazed i was able to sleep, actually, as my hip is bothering me so much i can barely climb stairs. i've been limping around everywhere, and i grunt and groan like an old man when i stand up or sit down. is this sciatica? it doesn't seem to radiate downward the way sciatica is supposed to - it just hurts in the centre of my left buttock. and hurts a lot.

we have had fun telling people the big news this weekend. it's really cool how many people are just as excited about this as we are! also cool is that two of my good friends are moving to toronto this summer - one of whom has a baby and a toddler. we had a good long chat on saturday night about babies and pregnancy and life in general.

funny how my idea of what to do on a saturday night now involves staying in and talking on the phone! that's about as much excitement as i can handle these days. we are planning a party for my husband's birthday next month - we'll see how long i last at that! maybe i can convince people to come early. or maybe i'll just go to bed at four o'clock in the afternoon and wake up at midnight and be the life of the party - that schedule seems to work for me!

argh

i tried to go shopping for some preggo clothing yesterday. i tried on a few tops that looked cute on the hanger - a sort of collared shirt in cotton poplin with a bit of stretch, which had a tie under the bust - and they were all ridiculous on. can someone please explain to me why they put the extra fabric in the back? don't most preggos put on the pounds in the front? that's what i'm doing. having big balloons of fabric puffing out the back my help if i was growing a hunch, but thankfully that hasn't happened.

wow, that was fast.

so, yesterday afternoon we decided to start telling people the big news.

within an hour i had received three emails from my maniac sister - 1 saying congratulations, 1 listing a bunch of things i should and should not do lest i risk the baby's health (all coloured by her veganism), and 1 saying "don't subscribe to any baby e-lists because they will just send you guilt-inducing emails listing a bunch of things you should and should not do lest you risk the baby's health." wow, i didn't need to sign up anywhere to receive those. they came on their own, thanks.

it's looking like a looooong nine months.

spreading the news!

we're finally letting people know the big news. i told people at work today, and gave my mum the go ahead to spread the word. my husband is giving his mum and dad the go-ahead today. tonight, i start calling people. whee! it's great to be finally out of the closet, so to speak.

once again

nothing to say other than i'm awake! have been up for just over an hour. the birds are starting to chirp outside, the sky is getting light. with any luck, the paper will be here soon and i can fall asleep on the crossword puzzle. worse luck, i just read in sorlil's blog that some researchers think that the baby picks up cues about sleeping and eating from the mother. no!!! i don't want a baby who wakes up at four o'clock in the morning, thanks! it's bad enough that i'm waking up this early now, i hate to think that i'm somehow encouraging the wee one to wake up at this time too!
